A514 grade A steel plate is for high yield strength, quenched and tempered alloy steel plate of structural quality in thickness of 32mm and under intended primarily for use in welded bridges and other structures.
A514 plate steel has a min-yield strength of 100 ksi/690 MPa. It’s most commonly used as a structural steel in building construction, for cranes, or other large machines supporting high loads. It is used where a weldable, machinable, very high strength steel is required to save weight or meet ultimate strength requirements.
The manufacturer may reheat-treat plates that fail to meet the mechanical property requirements of this specification when rolling of high tension steel plate A514GrA.All mechanical property tests shall be repeated when material is resubmitted for inspection.
