A514 is a conventional quenched and tempered alloy steel plate designed for structural applications.
A514 steel is available in a variety of chemistries: A, B, C, E, F, H, J, K, M, P, Q, S, and T. All of these grades have the same mechanical properties. A514 has excellent weldability and can be welded with simple procedures and common consumables such as E7018.

Rolling steel grade A514GrB furnished under ASTM A514/A514M shall conform to the requirements of the current edition of specification A6/A6M,for the ordered materials of steel A514 Gr.B steel ,unless a conflict exists in which case this specification shall prevail.High strength steel plate A514Gr.B shall be heat treated by steel mills to conform to the tensile and hardness requirements by heating to not less than 1650 F (900 centigrade),quenching in water or oil and tempering at not less than 1150 F (620 centigrade).The heat treating temperature shall be reported on the mill test certificates.
