Menghua railway, China's largest coal-dedicated rail line, wrapped up its rail laying work on July 2, laying solid foundation for its commercial debut in October.
The 1,814.5-km heavy-haul railway, starting from Ordos of Inner Mongolia to Ji'an of Jiangxi, became another long-distance coal transport artery after Daqin railway.
With a designed annual transport capacity of 200 million tonnes, the railway is aimed at supplying coal from northern production bases of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Shaanxi to coal-lacking provinces of Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi.
Once commission, Menghua railway can not only ensure steady coal supply for the three provinces in central China, and also make a great contribution to economic development in regions along middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
