SS400 thick plate is a Japanese standard ordinary carbon structural steel, which is equivalent to domestic Q235 steel. In the grades of Japanese steel (JIS series), ordinary structural steel is mainly composed of three parts:
SS400——The first S stands for Steel, the second S stands for "Structure", 400 is the lower limit tensile strength of 400MPa, and the overall designation is ordinary structural steel with a tensile strength of 400 MPa.

SS400 steel surface quality requirements1. Cracks, bubbles, scars, folding and mixing on the surface of the steel plate are not allowed to be harmful to the application. There shall be no delamination on the side of the steel plate. If there are the above-mentioned surface defects, picking is allowed, and the picking depth is calculated from the steel plate practice specification, and must not exceed half of the thickness of the steel plate. A small thickness of the steel plate should be ensured. The shortcomings should be smooth and free of edges and corners.
2. Other shortcomings are allowed. The depth shall be calculated from the steel plate practice code and shall not exceed half of the allowable thickness for public service, and the thickness of the steel plate at the defect shall be not less than the allowable smaller thickness of the steel plate.
Scope of application
SS400 thick plate is often rolled into wire rod or round steel, square steel, flat steel, angle steel, I-beam, channel steel, window frame steel and other section steels, medium and thick steel plates. It is mainly are used in construction and engineering structures. SS400 thick plate can be used to manufacture steel bars or to make factory buildings, high-voltage power transmission towers, bridges, vehicles, boilers, vessels, ships, etc. It can also be used to use less demanding mechanical parts.
